English: Parvovirus B19 is a small DNA virus that primarily infects red blood cell precursors. It causes fifth disease (erythema infectiosum) in children and can cause complications in pregnant women or immunocompromised individuals.

Symptoms / 증상

In children / 어린이:

• Mild fever / 가벼운 발열
• “Slapped cheek” rash (red cheeks) / 얼굴 볼 붉음 (뺨 발진)
• Lacy red rash on trunk and limbs / 몸통과 팔다리의 망상 발진
• Mild fatigue / 가벼운 피로

In adults / 성인:

• Joint pain or swelling (arthropathy) / 관절 통증 또는 부종
• Fever, malaise / 발열, 권태감
• Rash may be less prominent / 발진은 덜 뚜렷함

Complications / 합병증:

• Aplastic crisis in patients with hemolytic anemia / 용혈성 빈혈 환자에서 재생불량 위기
• Fetal hydrops / miscarriage in pregnant women / 태아 수종 또는 유산
• Severe anemia in immunocompromised / 면역저하자에서 심한 빈혈

Diagnosis / 진단

• Serology: IgM (acute), IgG (past infection) / 혈청학: IgM (급성), IgG (과거 감염)
• PCR for viral DNA (severe cases) / 중증 시 바이러스 DNA PCR

Treatment / 치료

1. Supportive care / 보조 치료

• Rest / 휴식
• Hydration / 수액 및 수분 섭취
• Pain or fever management / 통증 및 발열 조절

2. Specific therapy / 특수 치료

• Blood transfusions for severe anemia / 심한 빈혈 시 수혈
